Photobiomodulation: All the Skin Benefits

What is photobiomodulation?

Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level light therapy (LLLT), is the use of visible or near-infrared light to trigger biological responses in cells — without heat or pain.

  • Dose (J/cm²): irradiance × time. Optimal therapeutic window is 3–50 J/cm²
  • Distance: the closer the device to skin, the more effective the dose — which is why masks that press LEDs directly against skin outperform handheld devices for full-face treatment
